Walk: A Free Therapy

Trial and Error concept has been there for more than 100000 years and it's the core of HOW WE LEARN. As we progress in any journey we learn different aspects, propositions, routes etc and those actually help us to narrow down the road to our destination. I’m no different, This is what happened to me in my Fitness journey: From body aesthetics to worshipping the idea of Movement I reached the other side of the hill.

In a world of social media and a lot of distractions, we get little time to interact with ourselves. We connect with ourselves on a deeper level when we practice mind-body sync and there are 2²⁵⁶ ways out there. Walking is one of them.

Walking was just another movement I found during this journey and I wonder sometimes this wasn’t the movement I explored in good circumstances, rather I explored it in one of the worst phases of my life. At that point, things were not going in my favour, the odds were against me, was not training as well, and stress was at its peak. I want to be thankful for my exercise-induced lifestyle — which I built over almost 2 years — has enforced me that I can cop with this stress. and trust me, no other force helps greatly than Nature to establish that mind-body sync.

In my mind, I knew, the bare minimum was: any physical movement in nature so that I could de-clutter my mind, therefore, I started on the lakeside walking trail (because, first, it was nearby and accessible and second, I was in no mood for lifting weights or doing cardio in the concrete). I walked for hours each passing day…..Initially, it was just regular but gradually I sensed the rise in endorphins level during the walk, and my mind started to feel refreshed. Slowly as I got the pace, I started to add some comfort music bits to this movement ( because why not, Music is a healer, it did wonders for me)…..and after a short time, I found myself in a positive space mentally which is all I needed to handle to situation. Of course, there were other chips of this phase, but that’s a haiku that introduced one of the simplest yet powerful movements: WALKING.

Afterwards, I added this movement to my fitness regime and ultimately it found its place in different roles:

  1. Walking as in Warm-up
  2. Walking as in Active Recovery
  3. Walking as in Busy/Hectic day exercise
  4. Walking as an Additional calorie burner (with primary workout)

and what not!?

Why did I say Free Therapy?

It can be performed literally anywhere, anytime, with no resources. Moreover, if it has been performed in nature, there is no comparison of that. It gives you moments of relish, an option to shed today’s/yesterday’s tiredness, an opportunity to be back in consciousness, etc.

Walking is an underrated therapist. I have put my thoughts on Walking as a Movement which is elementary yet has potent effect on positive mind-body sync, and of course, is a great mental energy revitalizer.
